Kurashiki city in Okayama is renowned as the home of Japanese Denim. Historically, however Kurashiki was and still is the production capital of canvas in Japan.  Nearly 70% of all canvas production comes from Kurashiki alone.

Renowned for its water-resistance, durability and breathability, Hanpu canvas was once produced solely for sails used on ships. It is thanks to these properties that canvas from Kurashiki has established itself as a valuable and high-quality fabric base for use in garments today. 

Master-piece's latest series of tote bags taps into Kurashiki's rich history of canvas production, opting for a thick No. 6 fabric base, which has undergone paraffin processing for an even sturdier and water-resistant finish.
